Throughout the trip, Kelly will work with you to refine your photography — from composition and lighting to framing and camera control. You’ll receive personalized instruction on using manual settings, as well as techniques like motion panning, the rule of thirds, polarizing filters, and even astrophotography under the African night sky. Day Two: After breakfast at the Eka, we’ll travel by minibus to Simba Lodge in the heart of Samburu National Reserve. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a quick lunch before heading straight into your first game drive. Samburu’s golden grasslands are renowned for their concentration of rare northern Kenyan species, including Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and beisa oryx, along with roaming families of elephants. The reserve is also home to large predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even African wild dogs. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled—over 450 species have been recorded here, including the Taita falcon, African darter, white-headed vulture, and yellow-billed oxpecker. Throughout the afternoon, Kelly Fajack will work one-on-one with each guest to assess photography skill levels, ensure cameras are properly set up, and begin refining individual technique. The day ends with a traditional dinner at the lodge, stories by lantern light, and anticipation for what lies ahead. Day Three: Start your day with breakfast at Simba Lodge, followed by a morning game drive, when the light is magical and the animals are most active. After lunch and a bit of rest, we’ll head back out into the bush for another afternoon game drive, exploring new areas of the reserve and building on your photo skills.
