An African Safari Like No Other
At the top of nearly every bucket list is the ultimate adventure: an African safari. Often called “the greatest wildlife show on Earth,” it takes only a few hours on your first game drive to understand why. You’ll witness the raw beauty of the planet in its most natural state.
Guided by professional travel photographer Kelly Fajack, you'll journey deep into the Samburu and Maasai Mara National Reserves, home to an incredible diversity of wildlife — from iconic big game to elusive small species — all set against the backdrop of the stunning Kenyan savannah. Along the way, you’ll also experience the rich culture and traditions of local tribes, offering an authentic glimpse into life in East Africa.
Every detail of your journey has been thoughtfully planned, allowing you to focus on the experience. Fresh breakfasts will be waiting when you wake, and dinners and cold drinks await your return from each game drive. The only thing you’ll need to lift is your camera.
Throughout the trip, Kelly will work with you to refine your photography — from composition and lighting to framing and camera control. You’ll receive personalized instruction on using manual settings, as well as techniques like motion panning, the rule of thirds, polarizing filters, and even astrophotography under the African night sky.
After the adventure, each guest will receive a private one-hour Photoshop session via screen share, once you’ve had time to review and select your best shots.
The Safari
This is a ten day trip with eight full days in the parks “on safari.”
Day One:
Arrive in Nairobi, where you'll be warmly welcomed and transferred to the comfortable and modern Eka Hotel — your base for the night as you prepare to begin your safari adventure.
Day Two:
After breakfast at the Eka, we’ll travel by minibus to Simba Lodge in the heart of Samburu National Reserve. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a quick lunch before heading straight into your first game drive.
Samburu’s golden grasslands are renowned for their concentration of rare northern Kenyan species, including Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and beisa oryx, along with roaming families of elephants. The reserve is also home to large predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even African wild dogs. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled—over 450 species have been recorded here, including the Taita falcon, African darter, white-headed vulture, and yellow-billed oxpecker.
Throughout the afternoon, Kelly Fajack will work one-on-one with each guest to assess photography skill levels, ensure cameras are properly set up, and begin refining individual technique. The day ends with a traditional dinner at the lodge, stories by lantern light, and anticipation for what lies ahead.
Day Three:
Start your day with breakfast at Simba Lodge, followed by a morning game drive, when the light is magical and the animals are most active. After lunch and a bit of rest, we’ll head back out into the bush for another afternoon game drive, exploring new areas of the reserve and building on your photo skills. We overnight again at Simba Lodge, with time to review the day’s images, share insights, and enjoy another peaceful dinner under the African sky.
Day Four:
Today we venture deeper into the Samburu National Reserve, with morning and afternoon game drives designed to expand your photographic skills. With Kelly’s guidance, you’ll continue practicing techniques in natural light, capturing both sweeping landscapes and intimate wildlife moments. Expect surprise encounters, rich textures, and endless opportunities to create truly compelling imagery.
Day Five:
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the airstrip for a short flight to the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve — one of the most iconic and ecologically important wildlife areas on the planet. Known for its rolling grasslands, dramatic light, and dense populations of predators and prey, the Mara offers a photographer’s dream environment.
Arriving in the Mara during September or October, you'll catch the tail end of the Great Wildebeest Migration, when herds of zebra, gazelle, topi, and Cape buffalo move through the region, often shadowed by lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Upon arrival, we’ll check in at the eco-luxurious Mara Siria Camp, enjoy lunch, and head out for an afternoon game drive.
Day Six:
We’ll begin the day with an early game drive and a packed breakfast, venturing out in the golden morning light. Afterward, we’ll visit a traditional Maasai village, offering an authentic and respectful look into their vibrant culture and enduring traditions — a highlight for many travelers.
We’ll return to Mara Siria Camp for lunch and rest, followed by an afternoon game drive, where you’ll have another chance to track the big cats or capture the breathtaking Kenyan sunset. Dinner at camp rounds out the day.
Day Seven:
Another early morning game drive with breakfast to go, followed by a midday picnic lunch beneath the shade of an acacia tree, deep in the heart of the Mara. This is a photographer’s paradise — wide open skies, dramatic silhouettes, and animals in their purest habitat. We’ll enjoy a final afternoon game drive, then return to camp for dinner and stories around the fire.
For those looking to take the experience even higher, an optional hot air balloon safari over the Mara is available at sunrise for $450 per person — a breathtaking way to see the landscape from a new perspective.
Day Eight:
Start the day with an early game drive, accompanied by a packed breakfast to enjoy in the bush. Return to Mara Siria Camp for lunch and some downtime, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Dinner back at camp provides the perfect end to a full day of wildlife and photography.
Day Nine:
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for a short flight back to Nairobi, where you’ll spend the night or prepare for your departure.
Day Ten:
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
Pricing:
All this for just $6,999 (double occupancy) or $7,999 (single occupancy).
Airfare, alcohol, and travel insurance are not included.
